A Wild Weekend at the WM Open

The WM Phoenix Open coined “The Greatest Show On Grass” always brings an energy unlike any other event to the PGA Tour. This year however the famous 16th hole saw an unprecedented enthusiasm from both players and fans alike! Easily living up to it’s reputation for being the loudest hole in golf.

On Sunday we saw Harry Higgs follow through on Joel Dahmen’s Saturday evening tweet, popping his top right after rolling in a par putt on 16. Dahmen couldn’t let Higgs have all the fun though ripping his shirt off and helicoptering it around above his head while hyping up the 16,000+ fans to another level.

Saturday’s crowd at the Coliseum, saw Sam Ryder make the first of two hole in ones that would be seen on number 16 this past weekend. Following the ace we saw an absolute frenzy erupt from the crowd with beer being sprayed everywhere, leaving the 16th hole riddled with empty beer cans, hats and anything else that the fans could toss into the air with excitement.

Sunday brought another ace to the loudest hole in golf, this time by Carlos Ortiz and once again the fans did not disappoint with their celebration! With event officials still cleaning up the aftermath of his hole in one on 16 Ortiz absolutely nuked a drive on to the green of the par 4 17 and rolled in the 17 footer for eagle.

Following a wild weekend at the WM Open we share our thoughts on the event and the transition point that we feel professional golf is currently in. We briefly chat about the new Netflix series that is currently in production by the same team that produced Drive to Survive and how we feel this could bring the game of golf to new audiences. To round out the episode we spend a bit of time talking about the Super Golf League delivering our takes on the information that has been rumored surrounding this proposed league.
